FORT ST. JOHN -- The much-anticipated Kin Park Pump Track has officially opened to the public, marking a milestone in the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance the park.
The City of Fort St. John is urging all riders to prioritize safety by wearing helmets and protective equipment while using the track. Riders are also being asked to avoid the surrounding sod areas as they continue to establish roots.
The city has issued a reminder that motorized and electric vehicles are strictly prohibited on the pump track, and have provided tips to help riders make the most of their experience: stay off the track when not using, one way only, follow the red lines, ride without pedaling.
"It is designed to be ridden by pulling up on the face of the roller and pushing down on the back to maintain speed," said the City of Fort St. John in a social media post.
Last month, a delayed opening of the pump track was announced due to individuals moving and 'damaging' construction fencing to gain early access.
Upgrades to Kin Park, located at Northern Lights Drive and 96th Street, have been in progress for the past three years. The project received just over $994,000 from the province for enhancements, with the remainder of the multi-million dollar project being funded through the Peace River Agreement.
More information on Kin Park upgrades can be found on the City of Fort St. John website.
