DAWSON CREEK -- It’s day three of the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede.
The day kicking off with a fundraiser for 'Tough Enough to Wear Pink.’
The national campaign has been raising awareness for breast cancer at rodeos and events across Western Canada since 2004, with proceeds serving local communities.
While we've seen a preview of the fairgrounds, food, junior rodeo, and the all-pro chuckwagon races, the events have been merely setting the stage for what will be one of the busiest weekends in Dawson Creek.
Exhibition President Connie Patterson says 5000 people came through the gates Wednesday, and an additional 10,000 on Thursday.
“It just keeps getting bigger-- when we're finished we end up with around 50 to 60,000 all together,” said Patterson.
This weekend, there will be more chuckwagon races, the elite racing competition, agricultural exhibits and a Saturday night performance by country superstar Chad Brownlee down at the ‘Waterin’ Hole.
The venue hosting a 'Rising Star' talent show today, and will be open with live music throughout the weekend.
On Sunday, the all Canadian Pro Rodeo will take place with this year’s competition 387 entries, setting a new record for the stampede.
There will also be the opportunity for a picnic in the park with Miss Rodeo Canada.
While campfire bans have been rescinded in the Peace Region, the exhibition announced today that due to ongoing Category Two and Three fire bans, firework displays scheduled for today, Saturday, and Sunday will be cancelled.
However, the weather is expected to hold up with sunny skies and highs of 32° expected Saturday, with Sunday also seeing sun and highs of 30°.
The gates open at the exhibition grounds on 116th Avenue at 7:00 a.m.
Street parking is available free of charge while lots situated around the grounds are charging drivers four to five dollars.
Tickets are still available online ranging from three to $38.
“Be sure that you can come in and take the horticulture building in-- Oh my God, it's so beautiful what they've set it up there,” said Patterson.
A full event lineup is available on the Dawson Creek exhibition website.
