DAWSON CREEK/ FORT ST. JOHN -- The writ has dropped signalling B.C.'s election campaign is officially underway, with two official candidates confirmed to be on the ballot in both Peace River South and Peace River North.

In the riding of Peace River South, Mike Bernier launched a campaign video highlighting that his run as an independent  will give him a strong-hold in the legislature, promising better results for the region.

Over the weekend, he met with residents in Dawson Creek during gatherings for the International Day of Peace, the Dawson Creek Elks Lodge 80th anniversary, and an event held by the Filipino diaspora.

The incumbent MLA will be running against BC Conservative candidate Larry Neufeld, who held true to his party's platform to reform healthcare while speaking with residents at his newly-opened campaign headquarters in downtown Dawson Creek.

Neufeld also met with the South Peace Grain Cleaning Co-op for a tour, gaging the concerns of producers in South Peace.

The riding of Peace River North sees incumbent MLA Dan Davies billing himself as the Independent conservative candidate.

Davies releasing several campaign videos on the importance of supporting small business in Fort St. John, and a commitment to increased RCMP presence in Fort Nelson. He also attended and spoke at the Onam Festival, a Hindu cultural event.

An official campaign launch event will be held at his office in Fort St. John this evening.

Davies is running against BC Conservative Jordan Kealy who is highlighting his party's commitment to bring 'common sense change' to the province while distributing campaign signage to voters.

“We will be knocking on doors and handing out hundreds of our lawn signs and it's amazing to see the great support we have,” said Kealy in a Facebook post.

The election will be held on October 19.

Those looking to cast their ballots early can do so from October 10  through to the 16, except on the Thanksgiving holiday.
