FORT NELSON -- A wildfire that forced thousands to evacuate Fort Nelson has prompted a warning for increased smoke from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
The Patry Creek wildfire has shown increased activity resulting in a 'considerable increase' in smoke along Highway 77, according to the BCWS.
Travellers are advised to expect poor visibility and to drive with caution through the area.
“Intermittent candling of trees may be visible and increased levels of smoke are expected,” said the BCWS in a Facebook post Wednesday.
The fire remains out of control since its status changed on July 5th, and has grown to over 163,000 hectares since being discovered.
The BC Wildfire Service notes that while the fire’s intensity may fluctuate in the coming days, it is expected to stay within its current boundaries.
Although the fire does not pose an immediate threat to Fort Nelson, area restrictions remain in place.
