FORT ST. JOHN, BC -- A new musical public art installation is coming to Fort St. John.
Impulse, an interactive public art exhibit, will be at the corner of 100th Street and 100th Avenue from Saturday, February 11th through Wednesday, February 22nd.
The installation is made up of illuminated seesaws, which produce sound when people play on them. To activate the seesaw, one person sits down on each end. The seesaws, fitted with LED lights and speakers, produce a series of beautiful sounds. The intensity of the light varies as the board’s angle changes.
According to the city, the closer you get to the work and the more you play on the seesaws, the more you notice subtleties in the installation and details in the sound and light. While on the seesaws, each person becomes the player of a novel instrument.
"Art has a magical power to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. We cannot wait to see our community enjoying this temporary public art installation while reimagining the possibilities of our downtown,” stated Eryn Griffith, Arts and Culture Manager for the City of Fort St. John.
Impulse has been featured in cities all around the world, including Montreal, London, Jerusalem, and Houston.
The installation will open on Saturday, February 11th, with an event co-hosted by the Fort St. John Arts Council. It will take place from 6 to 8pm, and feature music and hot chocolate.
