DAWSON CREEK -- The Dawson Creek RCMP said that 8 people were detained Friday after a ‘high-risk’ search warrant was executed at a duplex on 116th Avenue.

During the search, the RCMP Emergency Response Team seized a number of illegal and modified firearms. A number of replica firearms were also located and seized.

Police said an assortment of ammunition for shotguns, rifles and pistols were also confiscated, along with 90 grams of suspected illicit drugs.

8 people were taken into custody on Friday. Police said all of them have since been released. Officers are considering charges as their investigation continues.

As a precaution, students at Tremblay Elementary School were placed under a lock-down for an hour and twenty minutes while the search warrant was being executed near-by.

Police told CJDC TV News, the search warrant was connected to a recent spike in violent crimes in the city over the past few weeks.
