DAWSON CREEK -- Dawson Creek RCMP have confirmed that human remains were found Friday night just north of Dawson Creek.

Mounties were called to the scene just before 7pm Friday. A person from a community organization was picking up garbage at the side of 219 Road near Saskatoon Creek, when they discovered a human skull.

The North District Major Crime Unit has been called into help with the investigation. Police say it is too soon to comment on a possible victim.

It is unclear at this point how long the human remains had been at the site.

Sergeant Sean Peddle with the Dawson Creek RCMP said, “It could take days or weeks to learn the identity of the victim. We have to wait for the forensic analysis to be completed before that information can be released.”

The stretch of road between 214 Road and 212 Road had been closed to traffic as police continue to investigate. The road remained closed for most of the weekend but has since re-opened.

The BC Coroners Service was at the scene. Police are asking the public to stay away from the area as they continue their investigation.

CJDC TV News spoke with the mother of Cole Hosack who went missing on New Years Eve from the Lone Star night club. Julie Hosack said Dawson Creek RCMP have assured her that the remains located over the weekend are not associated with Cole's disappearance.
