HUDSON'S HOPE -- Hudson’s Hope is set to hold an open house to discuss plans for a new water treatment facility.
“Mayor, Council and representatives from McElhaney will be at the Community Hall to discuss plans for the future of Hudson’s Hope Water system,” reads an invitation posted on the district’s Facebook page.
A new facility is looking to be built in 2025, with the district seeking public feedback on an upcoming assent vote.
The vote will determine whether the district should borrow nearly five million dollars to fund the construction of a permanent plant.
The open house is scheduled for September 9th, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Since July 2023, a temporary water treatment plant has been in operation following a change in the water source during the construction of Site C.
This change significantly reduced water quality, leading to a year-long boil water advisory from Northern Health.
The temporary plant, which purifies water from the Peace River, costs between $27,000 and $75,000 per month to rent and maintain.
