HUDSON'S HOPE, BC -- Residents of Hudson’s Hope are expressing concern about their drinking water.

At a meeting Tuesday, Hudson’s Hope Council received a petition asking them to improve the water quality. The petition had over 150 signatures.

It claimed residents are “disgusted at the state of our town’s drinking water.” It also says the concentration of chlorine in the water has been killing houseplants and gardens.

Hudson’s Hope mayor Dave Heiberg says Council is aware of the issues with the water, and he shares the community’s frustration. He says the aquifer system the District uses is not performing up to standards. He adds that council is discussing options to improve the system.

“We are trying to look very closely at what we can do in terms of next steps,” says Heiberg. “We want to be very careful that we don’t rush into anything and cause a bunch of other problems. So the options that are being presented to council over the next little while here are going to be scrutinized very carefully.”

Heiberg says the District hopes to have a concrete plan for the water in the coming months.
