HUDSON'S HOPE -- Being pulled over by RCMP and being issued a ticket is usually not a positive experience for most people, but in Hudson’s Hope, a new initiative is looking to change that for youth in the community.
RCMP are looking to adopt a new program that will see Mounties handing out ‘Positivity Tickets.’
In a letter addressed to Hudson’s Hope city council, Constable Cara Votz says youth in the community will be given tickets for good behaviour that can be turned in for a slushie, ice cream, and popcorn at local businesses sponsoring the initiative.
A ‘Positivity Ticket’ will be handed out when police observe youth engaging in activities such as wearing helmets while riding their bikes, helping with chores, assisting their parents to bring in groceries, and aiding other children in crossing the street.
Hudson’s Hope RCMP are looking for the support of the district to provide coupons for swim and skating passes as part of the initiative.
“The idea is that the youth would be able to choose one of the available options per ticket issued,” wrote Constable Cara Votz.
RCMP will begin ramping up ticketing this summer.
