HUDSON'S HOPE, BC -- Hudson’s Hope police are issuing a reminder about bear safety.

RCMP remind the public that bears often roam closer to town this time of year looking for food, and are especially attracted to wild Saskatoon berries and other fruits that grow in residential areas.

Mounties say if you have fruit trees or berry bushes on your property, you should pick them as soon as possible to avoid attracting bears.

However, if you do see a bear on your property, police say do not approach it. If the bear does not leave or it gets too close to your residence, call the police (250-783-5241) or the BC Conservation Officer Service (1-877-952-7277) to deal with it accordingly.
