HUDSON'S HOPE -- The by-election held in Hudson’s Hope to fill a vacant councillor seat on Saturday was a close race.
Greta Goddard has been elected by a narrow margin, winning by only 3 votes Chief Election Officer Becky Mercereau declared Goddard elected on Monday..
Goddard received 93 votes with Kimberly Stacy coming in second place with 90 votes. Nicole Gillis had 52 votes, Joseph King had 29 and Valerie Paice had 15.
The seat has been vacant since October of last year, after former councillor Kelly Miller suddenly resigned from the position.
A key issue that has been at the forefront of the community is providing a permanent clean water source, with Goddard saying it will need serious consideration to solve.
Goddard will fill the remainder of Miller’s 4 year term which ends in 2026.
