FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. -- UPDATE: As of 4:39 p.m., Fort St. John Hospital Foundation has reached and surpassed their $35,000 goal.

The 19th Annual "Have a Heart Radiothon" is one of the biggest fundraisers for hospitals in the Peace Region.

In Fort St. John, 98.5 Move FM and the local hospital foundation is trying to raise $35,000 for special probes specifically for a portable ultrasound machine. Executive Director for the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation, Niki Hedges, says each probe costs around $10,000.

"Fort St. John Birthing Centre has a very high birthrate. So, it's important that the nurses and the physicians have up to date technology for the best amount of care."

Down south in Dawson Creek, Pure Country 890 AM's morning show host, Morgan Bowen is raising money for new jaundice screening technology, also for the local hospitals maternity ward. They're goal is $12,000.

"Usually, the community is able to come together, get a lot of money in, and it's great because it's been very helpful for people who need these technologies." Bowen said.

Both Erik Wedekind of MOVE and Bowen were on the air all day today, spreading the message to donate; and the last year showed how important the medical community is.

"Any support we can give to them, and to equipment and to anything needed in the community is going to be really important this year." said Amy Titley, Bell Media's General Manager for BC Peace Region.

Corporate donations are a big part of the Radiothon. In Fort St. John, Petronas is matching the first $10,000 donated. But, that's not all, Apex Dental also is matching the $10,000. That means if $20,000 is donated, those two companies will double it, potentially crushing the $35,000 goal.

"You can see the excitement is really beginning to rise, and that's why we just love the Radiothon so much. Because, we just don't know how much we're going to raise." Hedges said.

The official amount for both fundraisers will be released tomorrow.
