FORT ST. JOHN -- After more than a year since the proceedings began, the sentencing for Justin Sewell, a Fort St. John veterinarian found guilty of sexual assault, is set to resume in December.

Sewell pled guilty to three offences in November 2022. The court dates are now scheduled to span over three days, beginning December 11, 2024, in Fort St. John.

In June, the judge allowed additional evidence to be introduced by both Crown and defense lawyers, a decision that has slowed the proceedings, which initially began in July 2023.

Sewell was charged with sexual assault, secretly observing or recording nudity, and voyeurism.

According to the RCMP, the charges stem from an incident that occurred in Charlie Lake back in 2007.

The prosecution is seeking a federal prison sentence of 4.5 years.
