FORT ST. JOHN -- Fort St. John has proposed its 2024 Capital and Operating Budget, and it is set to include a boost in provincial funding.

The Peace River Agreement grant has been increased by 2.12 per cent or $554,000 compared to last year, according to documents presented to city council on February 26th.

The budget was put together by Chief Financial Officer David Joy.

The funding is part of a 20-year deal between the province and governments within the Peace River Regional District.

The money allows Fort St. John to fund capital projects including improvements to infrastructure, such as Phase Five of the 100th Street Corridor project this year, support local industry, and community services.

This year’s budget also proposes a 4.25 per cent property tax increase, that would be equal to approximately $72 a year for homeowners, one of the lowest increases across the province.
