FORT ST. JOHN -- The Fort St. John RCMP have announced their support the fourth annual Ned’s Wish Heroes Run.

The event taking place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, raises funds for the Canadian charity that helps enhance the quality of life for retired police and military dogs by providing funding for education support and medical care.

This year, the run will honour Police Service Dog 'Bingo' from the Toronto Police Service. On July 25, 2023, Bingo was helping to find a suspect wanted for murder, but was sadly shot and killed during the interaction. His bravery is said to have saved the lives of the officers that day.

Corporal Dan Cloutier from the Fort St. John Police Dog Service Unit shared that his first police dog, Dirks Regimental #936, benefited from Ned’s Wish, which extended Dirks’ life in retirement.

“Needlessto say, I'm a big supporter of this cause. My wife and I have been involved with Ned's Wish for a few years now,” said Cloutier.

The registration fee this year is $90, which includes a ‘swag bag’ for both in-person and virtual runs. Registration for those not looking to receive merchandise is $50.

The Fort St. John RCMP encourage everyone to join the event and enjoy a fun day running or walking with their dogs to support retired K-9s.
