FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. -- Fort St. John RCMP received a number of complaints about a phone scam in the area.

A person is using ‘caller ID spoofing’ technology, so they can appear to be calling from the Federal Government.

Mounties say most calls are coming through as the Canadian Border Services Agency.

The scammers will tell you they’ve received a package in your name, but the package has been flagged for a suspicious substance.

Throughout the call, they ask for personal information, which runs the risk of your identity being stolen.

Mounties are warning those not to share any information over the phone.

If you have received a similar call, you're being asked to contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8100.
