FORT ST. JOHN, BC -- A nurse in Fort St. John has been suspended over a series of “practice issues,” which included not responding to a call bell from a resident who later died.

Danielle Macnevin of Fort St. John has been disciplined for issues which happened during a night shift in March 2021. Among them, she allegedly did not complete safety checks of residents.

She also did not respond to a call bell from a resident’s bathroom. That resident was later found by day staff and taken to hospital, but subsequently died.

Macnevin’s registration will be suspended for two weeks. Following that, she won’t be allowed to work night shifts, or be the sole nurse on duty. She will also be required to complete a remedial ethics course.

Northern Health has stated that the incident did not occur in one of their facilities, and therefore declined to comment.
