DAWSON CREEK -- The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has cleared Fort St. John Mounties of any wrong-doing in a police-involved incident at a hotel in Fort St. John.
The occurrence took place at around 5:20 a.m. on March 19th, at the Super 8 by Wyndham Hotels in the 9500 Block of West Alaska Road.
A report release by the I.I.O. on Friday said police responded to a report of a disturbance at a local hotel. When officers arrived, they spoke to the affected person, a man, and later departed the scene.
About an hour later, police returned to the hotel following a second 911 call. Upon arrival, the same man was found to have sustained injuries that appear to have been self-inflicted and was transported to a hospital.
“Evidence obtained during the investigation, including accounts of civilian and police witnesses as well as medical records, supports that the man’s later injuries were self-inflicted and not the result of action or inaction by the police,” the report went on to say.
The IIO was called to determine whether the man’s injuries meet the threshold of serious harm, and what role police may have played in the interaction.
The I.I.O. said the investigation into the matter is now closed.
