FORT ST. JOHN, BC -- A Fort St. John man accused of killing his girlfriend was denied bail in Fort St. John court today.

Shane Sutherland remains in custody after his bail hearing concluded today. Sutherland was arrested in February of 2021, and charged with second degree murder in the death of Amanda Black.

On February 8th 2021, Fort St. John RCMP were called to the Village St. John neighbourhood, where they found the body of the 22-year-old Black. Sutherland was arrested the same night, and has remained in custody since then.

Details of Sutherland’s bail hearing are under a publication ban. His trial is scheduled to begin in June.
