FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. -- Members of the Fort St. John Fire Department are heading south to help fight wildfires that continue to threaten communities in the Okanagan.
The area around Oliver is experiencing 2 major wildfires of note.
The district of Okanagan-Similkameen issued an evacuation order Thursday, July 22nd as the Inkaneep Creek fire has grown to over 6,800 hectares.
The 3 person crew from Fort St. John has joined the fight against the fire that started on July 19th.
Luckily the fire department was able to send the crew down south, now that the fires in the Peace Region area have decreased.
“If we had fires here or we were in a high to extreme fire rating or if we didn’t have the right staffing, we wouldn’t have sent a crew” Says Darrell Blades, Director of Public Safety for the City of Fort St. John.
The crew is expected to be back in Fort St. John in 10 days time.
