FORT ST. JOHN -- A number of Fort St. John firefighters have been recognized for their dedication and service.
During an October 28th council meeting, five members of the fire department received Long Service awards.
Matt Dawes, Craig Faulkner, Christopher Austin, Aaron Tjepkema, and Brent Morgan were each awarded for their service ranging from 10 to 15 years.
Additionally, four other members were acknowledged with Fire Services Exemplary Service Medals.
Ryan Tancock, Simon Caughill, Tyler Ristau, and Fire Chief Robert Norton were recognized for dedicating at least 20 years to fire services.
“This medal honors the dedication and exemplary conduct of fire service professionals across Canada,” read the introduction of the awards presented by Mayor Lilia Hansen on behalf of the Sovereign King Charles III.
The medals celebrate firefighters with at least 20 years of service, 10 of which involve active duty with inherent risks.
