FORT NELSON -- The Fort Nelson First Nation has announced its newly elected council.

A total of 352 votes were cast in the election held on Wednesday. Only two councillors retained their seats from 2022, while five new candidates were officially elected.

Archie Harrold remains on the council with 197 votes, and Patricia Capot-Blanc will continue to serve with 108 votes.

There were 26 nominees for the seven-seat council, with the election conducted in accordance with the Indian Band Election Regulations.

 Chief Councillor Sharleen Gale, who has served on the council for over a decade, was defeated with 89 votes. However, she has been named a 2024 recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

The next election is scheduled for August 2026.
