FORT ST. JOHN -- Former Fort St. John mayor, Jim Eglinski. is being awarded the Freedom of City this Saturday at City Hall. 

It's the highest award given to an individual or group recognized for their contributions and achievements. 

Eglinski served as the Mayor or Fort St. John from 2005 to 2008.

He was later elected into parliament for Yellowhead, Alberta, in 2014, then stepped down after five years.

Now he sits in the mayor's chair ofYellowhead County.

Before Eglinski's journey into politics, he served 35 years with RCMP, joining in April 1969.

In 2020, the Freedom of City was awarded posthoumsly to Jean Legy, a senior advocate who helped create 'Save our Northern Seniors,' and arts and culture adovcate, Sue Popesku.
