The Evacuation Alert for Kelly Lake has been rescinded.

The community had been under the alert since last Thursday, and had previously been under an Evacuation Order due to the threat of the Bearhole Lake wildfire.

The fire is burning approximately 30 km east of Tumbler Ridge, and is just over 6,500 hectares in size.

The fire remains out of control, but BC Wildfire Service says they have made progress with fire suppression. Ground crews, helicopters, and heavy equipment have been able to establish control likes on the blaze. They say containment has been progressing well so far, and they are expecting that success to continue over the coming days.

As a result, the Peace River Regional District has rescinded the Evacuation Alert. However, Highway 52 remains closed between Boot Lake and Red Willow.
