DAWSON CREEK -- Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the B.C. South Peace River, saying a total accumulation of 10 to 15 cm expected. The snow is expected to begin this afternoon and run until Saturday morning. Bands of precipitation associated with a frontal system are forecast to bring between 10 to 15 cm of snow to the southern part of the Peace region this evening and into Saturday morning.

The heaviest snowfall, which is expected to meet warning criteria, will occur from late this afternoon to early Saturday morning. Snow will taper to a few flurries late Saturday morning. Due to gusty winds, there may be some areas of blowing snow contributing to very poor visibilities.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

There are snowfall warnings in effect for Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd as well. Argo Roads said in a statement they will have trucks out patrolling/plowing/sanding the main routes and plan to move into the sideroads and subdivisions as soon as possible.
