DAWSON CREEK -- Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for southern areas of the Peace starting Monday morning and continuing until Tuesday night.

50 to 75 millimeters of rain is also projected for areas southeast of Fort Nelson with around 100 millimeters forecasted near Tumbler Ridge.

Environment Canada said the heavy rain is due to a slow-moving pressure system moving from central Alberta.

They said the heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

There’s also a risk of debris flow.

Environment Canada is telling residents to watch out for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts in the next coming days.

Alerts and forecasts can be found on Environment Canada’s website.
