DAWSON CREEK -- A car chase Thursday afternoon involving the Dawson Creek RCMP led to the arrest of a man wanted for several outstanding warrants from Vancouver. 

Constable Sam Bratina said he recognized a driver who he knew not to be licensed in B.C.

When RCMP attempted to pull the car over, the grey Toyota didn't stop and instead sped away, jumping over a curb on 9th Street. 

Police had to break off the chase for public safety, meanwhile the vehicle continued to speed down 8th then doubled back heading north on 9th. 

A bystander alerted police where the vehicle had parked but when they arrived, the driver start fleeing on foot. 

Officers ran after the suspect and arrested him in a residential backyard. 

Charges are pending at the driver is expected to ramain in police custody.
