FORT ST. JOHN --

In a continuing effort to increase vaccination rates in Fort St. John, Northern Health is opening a drive-thru vaccine clinic.

The clinic will be located in the North Peace Arena parking lot. It will be for first doses of the vaccine only.

Northern Health say registration is recommended but not required. People won’t need to leave their vehicles and multiple passengers can be accommodated.

Dates and hours of operation for the drive-thru clinic:

• June 10-11      12 pm – 8 pm

• June 12             9 am – 5 pm

• June 14-15      12 pm – 8 pm

Registration is recommended, but not required.

Doctor Reka Gustafson says the number of infections across the province is declining and 72 per cent of residents aged 12 and over have now received a first dose of vaccine.

Compared to the provincial numbers, the Peace Region is still far behind. As of June 3rd, vaccination rates for residents aged 12 and older are; 49 per cent in the South Peace, 49 percent in the Fort Nelson area and 43 percent in the North Peace

While there is still a long way to go, officials with Northern Health have said in the past, they would like to see a local vaccination rate of 80% to see restrictions lifted.

B-C's provincial health officer says all signs are pointing toward COVID-19 soon becoming a communicable disease like others that are managed by local public health teams.
