DAWSON CREEK -- A scary situation unfolded in Dawson Creek on Monday morning, after a number of reports that a man waving a knife was chasing a school bus.

Police say just before 8am, a man was running down 8th Street with a butchers knife in his hand.

When officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the school bus was not involved in the situation.

The man then ran into the Esso Gas Station and made his way behind the counter. An employee of the station believed he was been robbed.

Police say it turned out that the man was having a psychotic episode. Mounties tell CJDC TV News that the man believed people were trying to kill him and his knife was a means of protecting himself.

The man was taken to the Dawson Creek Hospital for medical evaluation. Police say no one was injured during the ordeal and no charges are expected to be laid.
