DAWSON CREEK -- Freddy Ominayak was sentenced to 3 years in prison on charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm after shooting a woman in the face in 2021.

Ominayak was also facing charges of robbery, assault with a weapon and attempted murder.

However those charges were dropped after the prosecution agreed to a plea deal.

The shooting took place in 2021 at a fourplex in Dawson Creek. According to the RCMP, the woman went to the Dawson Creek Hospital around midnight with an apparent gunshot wound.

After she talked to police, the Prince George Emergency Response Team was called in. Officers located Ominayak at a motel in the 1700 block of Alaska Avenue.
