DAWSON CREEK -- One person was taken to hospital following a fire in Dawson Creek Friday night.  

The fire started in a garage in the 300-block of 98th Avenue. Emergency crews were called to the scene just before 7pm and remained on scene for about 1.5 hours.

The home owner was taken to hospital and suffered third degree burns.

By the time firefighters at the scene, the garage was totally engulfed in flames. Those flames had begun to spread, but a quick response from the Fire Department saved the house from being destroy. Dawson Creek Fire Department telling CJDC-TV that 5 minutes longer - the house would have also gone up in flames.

Dawson Creek Fire Chief Marcel Capelle said motorists were running over fire hoses near the scene. Capelle is reminding the public to stay clear of active fire scenes.

The cause of the fire has not yet been identified, and remains under investigation.
