DAWSON CREEK, BC -- The City of Dawson Creek has approved the use of a residential house to accommodate healthcare practitioners.

The South Peace Health Services Society plans to take control of the property on 106th Avenue and renovate it. Their goal is to allow locums and visiting healthcare providers – including specialists – to stay there while they are in Dawson Creek.

The house is small, and will likely accommodate one to two people at a time. The project is part of the Society’s broader goal of improving access to local healthcare services in the region.

City Council approved the Society’s use of the property in a meeting on Friday. The Society will now need to negotiate a lease agreement with the city.

The South Peace Health Services Society is still in the preliminary stages of determining what is feasible for the property. There is no estimate yet on when the facility may open.
