FORT ST. JOHN -- One resident has died as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak at the Meadow House at Peace Villa long-term care facility in Fort St. John.

Northern Health says, “sadly, one resident who had tested positive in association with this outbreak has passed away. Northern Health extends condolences to the family, friends and caregivers of this individual.”

The outbreak was declared on November 4th, following lab-confirmed cases among residents and staff on the unit at the Fort St. John hospital.

Three residents and three staff had tested positive for the virus. So far, there have been no more confirmed cases of the virus

Northern Health Public Health is closely monitoring for additional cases, and the facility is taking steps to protect the health of staff and patients.

Health officials say enhanced outbreak control measures continue at Peace Villa:

  • Increased frequency of cleaning and infection control measures
  • Enhanced symptom monitoring among all staff and residents
  • Reducing movement of staff and residents in the facility
  • Temporary suspension of social visits (essential visits are not impacted, and can continue)

Public health officials will be monitoring the situation carefully over coming weeks and will only declare the outbreak over when they are confident that chains of transmission have been stopped.
