DAWSON CREEK -- Coatings 2000 Ltd. in Dawson Creek has been fined $2,500 by WorkSafeBC.
WorkSafeBC says the firm was conducting maintenance work on a flare stack at a natural gas well site. A worker was painting inside one of the vessels that are used to slow down gas flow in the flare system, with no ventilation.
WorkSafeBC also determined that the Safety Data Sheet for the paint chemicals was seven years old and had no updated documentation. This was a repeated offence.
According to WorkSafeBC, the firm failed to ensure moderate-risk confined spaces had ventilation and failed to change conditions that were hazardous to the health or safety of workers.
