FORT ST. JOHN, BC -- The City of Fort St. John is holding a public hearing regarding the bylaw for cannabis retailers.

The city is considering amending the current bylaw, which prohibits any cannabis stores from operating outside the downtown area. The new bylaw would remove that restriction, meaning stores could open in other areas, including along the Alaska Highway.

Cannabis stores could still not open within 200 meters of a school, or within 100 meters of a park.

The hearing will be held at 6pm on Monday, August 22 at City Hall. At the hearing, the public can make presentations to council or present written submissions regarding the bylaw.

You can also submit your feedback in advance, which will be considered at the meeting. You can write an email to legislativeservices@fortstjohn.ca, or mail or deliver a letter to City Hall. The mailing address is 10631 – 100 Street, Fort St. John, BC V1J 3Z5, Attention: Bonnie McCue, Corporate Officer. You must submit your comments by 4:30pm on Friday.

The hearing will also be streamed live and available as a recording on the City’s website, as well as their Facebook and YouTube pages.
