DAWSON CREEK -- A fire that destroyed a home in Dawson Creek could be condemned.

In a report sent to City Council on April 15th, staff are recommending that the city pursue the demolition of the house on 115th Avenue.

The house suffered significant damage from a fire that occurred on April 1st.  The roof and south walls of the house have crumbled to the ground.

Currently the home has no power, water or heat. Remnants of the house are scattered across the property.

Section 73 of the Community Charter allows the city to take remedial action when a structure poses a hazard or is declared a public nuisance.

If city council passes the motion, the home owner has 30 days to complete the demolition. If not, the city will step in and perform the work at the owner’s expense.
