CHETEYND -- The emergency room at the Chetwynd Hospital started the month of July on a familiar note, on diversion

It's the third ER closure at the hospital in only the last four days. The Emergency Room will be closed from Tuesday morning at 6:00 and won't re-open until 4'oclock Wednesday afternoon, according to Northern Health

Once again the health authority is citing a lack of physicians for the closure.

The health authority adds those needing life threatening emergency care would be taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital.

Another hospital diversion in Chetwynd took place over the weekend. The ER was closed on Saturday and Sunday due to over capacity and more staffing issues.

Despite incentives being offered to healthcare workers to come to the Peace Region, the chronic staffing shortage that has plagued the region for years doesn’t show signs of improving in the near future.

The closure marks the 16th diversion for the hospital in the last 6 months. There were 5 hospital diversion in Chetwynd during the month of June alone.
