CHETWYND -- The Emergency Department at the Chetwynd Hospital and Health Centre has reopened following a 24-hour diversion on Labour Day.

The ER was closed from 8:00 a.m. Monday and reopened at 8:00 a.m. this morning.

“Chetwynd and area residents are advised of an upcoming Emergency Department service interruption at Chetwynd General Hospital due to physician coverage challenges,” said Northern Health in a statement September 1st.

Patients who were in need of life-threatening emergency care were being asked to call 9-1-1, then transferred to the nearest available hospital.

The closure marks the 25th time this year staff shortages have forced the ER to go on diversion.
