Chetwynd halts burn permitting due to dry conditions
CHETWYND, BC -- The District of Chetwynd is no longer allowing burning within district limits.
The district announcing Friday that they will not be accepting or approving any burn permit requests until further notice. This is due to dry conditions and warm weather in the forecast.
Backyard campfires that measure .5m x .5m or less are still allowed.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the area around Chetwynd is currently classified as under a high fire danger rating.
Chetwynd has already seen one small wildfire this week. The blaze broke out on Monday near the West End Fraser Mill. It was believed to be human caused.
That fire burned 0.01 hectares, and is now listed as under control.
