FORT ST. JOHN -- The Chances Casino in Fort St. John are finally scheduled to re-open its doors to a limited capacity.

Casinos are part of stage three of BC's restart plan, and that is expected to kick in as early as July 1st.

BC's Lottery Corporation said in late may they were working on a plan to safely reopen casinos on Canada Day.

When casinos get the green light to open, new safety measures will be place including distancing between games and slot machines, and physical barriers like plexiglass when distancing is not possible.

In Fort St. John, Chances Casino still remains closed after a year of no business. Mayor Lori Ackerman has repeatedly asked the province to have a plan for casinos since they were ordered close at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over 100 people remain laid off because of the initial closure last spring.

More information is expected to come from the casino about the reopening in the next week.
