DAWSON CREEK -- An appreciation event will take place Thursday to highlight the importance of inclusive hiring. Over 30 local companies will be awarded certificates of appreciation for their inclusive hiring of those with mental disabilities.
90 attendees are expected to attend, including Mayor Darcy Dober, MLA Mike Bernier and members of council.
The idea for this event came from David Johnston, who has a mental disability. He says he wants to "open doors" when it comes to inclusive hiring.
Johnston is a member of the Dawson Creek Sunrise Rotary and teamed up with them for this initiative. He also teamed up with Rotary at Work B.C., and Dawson Creek Society of Community Living.
The event will take place at the George Dawson Inn banquet hall Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
