FORT ST. JOHN -- Bert Bowes Middle School was evacuated Thursday because of a bomb threat. There is heavy police presence surrounding the school.

Superintendent of Schools Stephen Petrucci says a bomb threat was called in to the school. Pertrucci says, “we have reason to believe it wasn’t a legitimate threat. However, we take these things seriously and implemented the proper protocols which involve calling the RCMP."

Inspector Anthony Hanson of the Fort St. John RCMP says “officers are investigating a public safety matter and have deployed a specialized unit to assist in the investigation.”

Through a thorough investigation, the Fort St John RCMP were able to identify a youth suspect and determined that there was no threat to the public which was confirmed by the RCMP police dog unit.

Late Thursday afternoon, the school was given the all-clear by police.
