There is good news for one of the major wildfire burning in the Peace Region: the Bearhole Lake wildfire burning east of Tumbler Ridge is now under control.

The fire was downgraded to “being held” earlier this week, as the BC Wildfire Service was confident it would not continue to spread. As firefighters continued mopping up the blaze, the service has downgraded its status once again.

The fire burned nearly 6,500 hectares, and forced Kelly Lake residents to evacuate their homes for four days earlier this month.

An area restriction remains in place near the fire. No one is allowed to recreate in Bearhole Lake Provincial Park or the surrounding area while firefighters continue to work.
