The rain that fell over the weekend meant good news for the wildfire burning near Kelly Lake. The Bearhole Lake wildfire is now classified as being held, and is no longer considered a “wildfire of note.”

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire is not likely to grow beyond its current footprint. Its final size was an estimated 6,472 hectares.

Crews remain active on site, patrolling and mopping up the blaze. The Service will use an infrared scan of the fire to find and extinguish any remaining hot spots.

Officials say people living nearby can still expect to see smoke in the area over the coming weeks. They also advise caution when driving through the area.
