DAWSON CREEK, BC -- The BC Liberal Leader is calling for action to fix the province’s healthcare system.

Kevin Falcon appeared at a party event in Dawson Creek on Tuesday, and called for the Health Minister to resign. When asked about the state of healthcare in BC, Falcon called the situation across the province unacceptable.

Last year, Health Minister Adrian Dix told CJDC-TV he was open to an independent audit of Northern Health and the Fort St. John hospital, following staffing shortages and low morale. No audit has yet materialized.

Falcon said he would conduct the audit if needed, if the Liberals were elected to power. He also called for more accountability, including Minister Dix’s resignation.

“We need to have leaders in government and in the bureaucracy that are held accountable for results,” said Falcon. “And when we get bad results, someone should pay the price.”

Among the issues with BC’s healthcare system, Falcon cited emergency room diversions, and a lack of access to healthcare in small towns.
