DAWSON CREEK, BC -- Crews will begin installing new LED street lights in Dawson Creek this week.

BC Hydro will conducting the project, which will last up to a month. The City of Dawson Creek says the installation should have minimal impacts on businesses and residents, but there may some short-term lane closures or traffic control in place as crews work.

Crews will be replacing the existing high-pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights. The City says this needs to be done by the end of 2025, to comply with federal regulations which require all light ballasts containing Poly-Chlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) to be removed by then.

The City also says the new LED lights will use less energy, last longer, and are more sustainable. They also say the lights will help improve public safety by increasing visibility at night.
