FORT ST. JOHN -- There will be one less candidate on the ballot in Peace River North after the BC Green Party candidate fell short on the signature threshold.
Brennan Wauters, who was announced as the party’s official candidate on September 24, failed to meet the requirement under the Canada Elections Act.
According to the Act, candidates must collect at least 100 signatures from voters within their riding.
Wauters, a parachute candidate, had until September 28, 2024, to collect signatures. However, it was expected he would spend little or no time in the riding.
A self-described “energy literacy advocate,” he has previously run in several ridings during different election cycles, most recently in the 2021 federal election for the Central Okanagan Similkameen-Nicola region.
Wauters has since been removed as a candidate in the riding from the party’s website.
