DAWSON CREEK -- As people in Northern B.C. struggle to access COVID-19 testing centres, some are resorting to walk-in clinics.

At a press conference today, Dr. Bonnie Henry was asked if getting COVID-19 tests done at walk-in clinics was "acceptable".

Patients in the Northern Health area are reportedly facing long wait times, or not able to get through by phone to book a test.

Henry recognized the issue saying she is working with Northern Health to ramp up the amount of testing that is being done.

"Once capacity is exceeded," Henry said, "it's hard to continue to build up the resources that are needed. But we are looking at how to make this more easily accessible in more places, and to ramp up the capacity for testing."

The Provincial Health Officer added those who have COVID-19 symptoms should stay home, and get proper testing booking.
