The forecast may be getting warmer, but there is still an avalanche risk in the South Peace Region.

The mountains surrounding Pine Pass and up to Williston Lake are under a considerable danger rating. Other areas in the South Peace are classified as under a moderate danger rating.

On Saturday, a large avalanche was reported in a remote area in Pine Le Moray Provincial Park. No one was hurt, although Avalanche Canada says it was potentially remotely triggered by a snowmobiler. The snowpack remains weak, and more large slab avalanches are still possible.

Those venturing into the backcountry are advised to choose their routes carefully, and choose conservative terrain. Avoid venturing out into more complex terrain, a steer clear of rock outcroppings and other areas with thin or weak layers.
